  1. This file lists the changes in dviwin for each version. Please read the
  2. normal documentation for full details on the changes.

  4. Version 2.7  (6/15/93)
  5. ======================
  6.    1. Added a "zooming" capability that enables you to use the printer
  7.       fonts for the screen; it uses color interpolation. There are also
  8.       two new entries in the "Options" submenu: the first one forces the
  9.       program to use black/white colors, while the second one lets you
  10.       fine tune the color interpolation. The gray plus and minus keys now
  11.       change the zoom factor instead of the resolution. You can change
  12.       the resolution by pressing the plus and minus keys in conjunction
  13.       with the Control key.
  14.    2. Added support for devices with different horizontal and vertical
  15.       resolution.
  16.    3. Fixed a printing bug which sometimes produced a GP fault.
  17.    4. Added many page size options.
  18.    5. Added some command line switches to facilitate the integration
  19.       of the program with an editor.
  20.    6. Added a simple interface to other dvi drivers when printing. This
  21.       lets you use a printer-specific dvi driver for PS and other printers
  22.       where dviwin is slower than the printer-specific driver.
  23.    7. When running two instances, the second window opens at a random
  24.       position to avoid covering up the first window.
  25.    8. The \special command required a filename with no extension; this
  26.       requirement has been relaxed: if you supply an extension, the
  27.       program will only look for the specific file; otherwise, it will
  28.       look for any graphics file with the same base name.
  29.    9. Added some buttons to the main menu; this is similar to a toolbar,
  30.       but it doesn't waste any screen space.
  31.   10. Fixed a bug in the directory input: the program would truncate
  32.       the directory to 80 characters, even though it could handle 256
  33.       characters.
  34.   11. Added a selection for the size of the magnifying glass; the
  35.       smoothing options are gone as they not needed when the zoom
  36.       factor is greater than one.
  37.   12. The browser now comforms to the MDI standard and can handle
  38.       multiple files. It also accepts several command line switches
  39.       for better communication with other programs.
  40.   13. Added a template specification for the "Log Viewer" command;
  41.       this can be helpful if you want to see the dviwin log file
  42.       as well as another file related to the current document.
  43.   14. Added bitmap support to the metafile exporter; it will also split
  44.       large bitmaps in small pieces to avoid common bugs in video drivers.
  45.   15. The dimensions of an included graphic can also be specified in actual
  46.       pixels; this is useful when you insert bitmapped graphics and you
  47.       want to avoid any scaling.
  48.   16. The program now displays and accepts floating point numbers
  49.       according to the method specified in the Control Panel (ie.,
  50.       it will use commas instead of periods when appropriate).

  53. Version 2.5  (3/15/93)
  54. ======================
  55.    1. Memory requirements have been drastically reduced: major speed
  56.       improvements when using high resolutions on 4M machines.
  57.    2. Circumvented a common bug in video drivers (the display would
  58.       be incorrect).
  59.    3. The font path can be customized using $r. IF UPGRADING FROM THE
  60.       PREVIOUS VERSION, ADD THE SUFFIX \$r TO YOUR BASE DIRECTORY.
  61.    4. Multiple font paths are now supported.
  62.    5. You can move to the next or previous page by pressing the right
  63.       mouse button on the vertical scrollbar.
  64.    6. Added support for emTeX font libraries ("fli" files)
  65.    7. Added a 600dpi resolution as well as two user-definable resolutions.
  66.    8. The printing resolution now defaults to the actual printer resolution,
  67.       but you can still adjust it. It is now independent of the viewing
  68.       resolution.
  69.    9. When opening a dvi file, it remembers the last page and position
  70.       and goes there automatically.
  71.   10. When losing the focus, the program now closes the dvi file but
  72.       remembers the position within the file. When it gets the focus
  73.       back, it checks the file for changes, and reloads it if necessary.
  74.   11. The program keeps a cache of unused fonts, to accelerate the loading
  75.       of new documents or changes in the magnification. The size of the
  76.       cache is adjustable by the user.
  77.   12. Added a magnifying glass with smoothing options. It is invoked by
  78.       clicking the middle mouse button or the left+right buttons.
  79.   13. The "Remember Position" option has been split into "Keep Hor.
  80.       Position" and "Keep Vert. Position".
  81.   14. New command "Apply Margins" so that you can set the margins
  82.       without entering the actual numbers.
  83.   15. Added an option about warning beeps.
  84.   16. The "New" entry in the "File" menu has been renamed to "Close".
  85.   17. When using metric paper, it reports positions and lengths in mm.
  86.   18. Added Control-Number shortcut to open any of the last four files.
  87.   19. The Home key moves you now to the top-left margin; if you press it
  88.       again, it moves you to the top-left corner. The ^Home, End, ^End
  89.       keys do the same thing for different corners.
  90.   20. Added some more positioning commands using the arrow keys or the
  91.       mouse. The scrolling amount is now adjustable.
  92.   21. The Space Bar and Enter keys now scroll the entire file as in
  93.       the "more" program.
  94.   22. Can handle now up to 17 open font files instead of 10. Make sure
  95.       that you have a FILES=50 (or more) statement in your config.sys file.
  96.   23. The log file is put in the directory specified by the TEMP
  97.       environment variable.
  98.   24. Added a "Quit" command in the "File" submenu to avoid saving the
  99.       parameters.
  100.   25. Added an option about saving the parameters by default when you
  101.       double-click on the top-left corner.
  102.   26. Fixed the help files so the browse buttons move you through the
  103.       entire help file sequentially.
  104.   27. Added a documentation file with common questions.
  105.   28. Added documentation for the font substitution file.
  106.   29. Added a second version of the help files with larger fonts for high
  107.       resolution screens.
  108.   30. A sharing violation (when trying to open the same file with
  109.       "share.exe" loaded) has been fixed.
  110.   31. Circumvented a bug in the HPGL and PIC graphics filters.
  111.   32. Font substitution file now uses dpi instead of TeX magnification.
  112.   33. New version of ctl3d.dll that works under Windows 3.0
  113.   34. Fixed a bug that prevented the program from running in 286 machines
  114.   35. Added a "Copy" command to the browser
